......an intense and irresistible desire for freedom. My family and I recently travelled to Vietnam and I discovered that travelling, for me comes with an incredible sense of freedom. To experience a different way of life, to drop yourself into a contrasting culture expands the mind in so many ways, particularly creatively. I found the time to notice the "everyday" life of colours, language and smells that can completely turn you on your head........ this is stunning Hanoi.

It is really wonderful to be passionate about something (having, showing, or caused by strong feelings or beliefs). Painting, creating and teaching are only a couple of mine. I am also grateful to have yoga as another passion. This quote is on the door of my Studio where I practise, I know what a lucky girl I am. What is your passion? Maybe you have one but never labelled it with this thrilling word. "Your passion must come from the things that fuel you from the inside". - Randy Pausch I have a long history with painting, it has been a love hate journey since I was 15 years old. However for the last 3 years it has only been love, as I now know that perfection is impossible. I have learnt to paint for myself and to paint from a place that does not judge, a very vulnerable place. This is my beautiful student at work, she has made two amazing paintings under my tutelage in the last 6 months and her ability blows me away as she has NEVER painted before. This painting however is coming from a different space, from within, no preconceived ideas and I hope without judgement. Isn't it beautiful? "If you hear a voice within you say, 'You can't paint', then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced". Vincent Van Gogh As time goes on we find ourselves more time poor than ever. It is a struggle to find space for ourselves when everything else seems to be moving around us so quickly. I believe we can all make art, it is within us. We just need to make a little bit of room for it in our lives, lose our expectations and inhibitions and discover the joy of creating. Creating, more importantly can be an expressive way to heal, whether it be healing a separated love, loss and grief or daily challenges. Art has healing and mood enhancing properties. Today I get to teach painting and it is the best part of my week where I get to share, laugh and connect. Art equals happy. “The key to knowing joy is being easily pleased.” Mark Nepo |
