I have a long history with painting, it has been a love hate journey since I was 15 years old. However for the last 3 years it has only been love, as I now know that perfection is impossible. I have learnt to paint for myself and to paint from a place that does not judge, a very vulnerable place.
This is my beautiful student at work, she has made two amazing paintings under my tutelage in the last 6 months and her ability blows me away as she has NEVER painted before.
This painting however is coming from a different space, from within, no preconceived ideas and I hope without judgement. Isn't it beautiful?
"If you hear a voice within you say, 'You can't paint', then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced".
Vincent Van Gogh
One of the reasons I love making art is because you discover where your inspiration (the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative) comes from. I was struggling to find tee shirts I liked for my two boys and so I was inspired to pull together these designs. I am now delighted that I can offer boy designs on home wares, cushions, prints and canvas & greeting cards which can all be found in my Redbubble shop.
I am sure my boys will continue to inspire me not only in my daily life but in my creative life as well.
"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up". –Pablo Picasso
As time goes on we find ourselves more time poor than ever. It is a struggle to find space for ourselves when everything else seems to be moving around us so quickly. I believe we can all make art, it is within us. We just need to make a little bit of room for it in our lives, lose our expectations and inhibitions and discover the joy of creating.
Creating, more importantly can be an expressive way to heal, whether it be healing a separated love, loss and grief or daily challenges. Art has healing and mood enhancing properties. Today I get to teach painting and it is the best part of my week where I get to share, laugh and connect. Art equals happy.
